Firefighting Foam Applications
Dynax has developed a family of products designed for use in firefighting foam concentrates such as AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam), AR-AFFF (Alcohol-Resistant AFFF), FP (Fluoroprotein), FFFP (Film Forming Fluoroprotein) and AR-FFFP (Alcohol-Resistant FFFP). Dynax’s fluorosurfactants and foam stabilizers are used in fire-fighting foam concentrates for flammable liquid fire protection in commercial, industrial and military applications.
Dynax products are especially effective in applications where superior foam stability and film formation are required. For example, DX5011, a patented foam stabilizer, has been the benchmark product for over a decade in the formulation of alcohol-resistant foams. Dynax continues to offer and develop a complete line of products based on C6 fluorotelomer intermediates.
Dynax Products & the Environment
Dynax only manufactures high purity C6 fluorosurfactants, foam stabilizers and optimized high performance blends meeting the toughest fire performance standards and the US EPA’s voluntary, 2010/2015 PFOA Stewardship Program.
All Dynax products are derived from C6-perfluoroalkyl iodide intermediates. These intermediates, commonly known as fluorotelomer iodides, are produced by the telomerization process, one of the two major manufacturing processes of fluorochemicals. Products produced by Dynax, only use the telomerization process, and contain no detectable levels of PFOS (Perfluorooctyl Sulfonate, <10 parts per billion, ppb, by weight). Also, Dynax products do not use PFHxS (PerfluoroHexane Sulfonate) as an intentionally added ingredient, C6 fluorotelomer-derived fluorosurfactants break down in the environment to 6:2 Fluorotelomer Sulfonate (6:2FTS) that has been proven to be non-bio accumulative – in contrast to PFOS and PFOA.
All Dynax products currently offered are neither derived from PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid) nor is it an intentionally added ingredient. All Dynax products do not degrade into PFOA in the environment and conform to EU regulation 2019/1021 that restricts the content of PFOA to a maximum of 25 parts per billion by weight.
Dynax’s telomer based products have an established history of successful flammable liquid extinguishments when incorporated in foam manufacturers’ formulations and used properly.
